Five years ago, I was thrilled to be invited by LATISM to the first Top Latina Blogger Retreat, where a group of Latina bloggers was selected to go to the White House and advocate for the issues we cared about most. Since then, LATISM has partnered with influencers to ignite the changes our community needs. I’m proud to have been chosen as a Latina Change Agent and to speak at the Latinos In Social Media Annual Conference.
We are living in a crucial time in U.S. history, marked by significant changes in population demographics, politics, and financial structures. American Latinos are at the forefront of many of these shifts, both from a multicultural and financial perspective.
As an expert and advocate for multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusion, my mission is to raise cultural awareness and create social change. Being a Latina change agent is not only imperative but central to my work. I am committed to highlighting the contributions of American Latinos to the United States and telling our stories to help younger generations develop a strong sense of identity and self-worth.
Through my mission, I guide parents and children in understanding and embracing multiculturalism and diversity as a way to create a peaceful and harmonious society, without sacrificing their cultural values and heritage. This year’s LATISM theme, ‘Latinos As Change Agents,’ is the perfect platform to amplify my message among both Latinos and non-Latinos.
American Latinos & Their Role in Multicultural America Panel
One way I’m honoring this year’s theme and continuing my work as a Latina change agent is through a panel I organized to discuss the role of American Latinos in multicultural America. I’m fortunate to share the stage with Juan Alanis of Juan of Words, Diana Limongi Gabrielle from LadyDeeLG, and Elyssa Fernandez from Wholly Art. Each of us represents a different Latino demographic and offers unique perspectives on this topic.
It’s evident to many that American Latinos are leading the multicultural revolution, not just in terms of numeric growth but also through our impact in all areas of society. It’s time for our community to commit to creating the positive changes we need, ensuring we continue to grow in strength by expanding opportunities in diversity and inclusion, education, business, technology, health, civic engagement, and policy. That’s what LATISM is about, and this year’s conference reinforces that commitment.
As a panelist and Latina change agent, I see this as an opportunity to raise awareness about the issues facing American Latinos and to provide practical tools people can apply in their daily lives to create the changes we want and need. These changes are essential for our community’s progress and for contributing to the advancement of the United States.
5 Ways You Can Be a Latina Change Agent as a Mom
If you’re passionate about multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusion like I am, you might wonder how you can act as a Latina change agent in these areas. You don’t need a degree or professional experience to make a difference. In fact, you may already be doing so within your community. Here are five ways you can be a change agent:
- Share your culture and heritage with your children, and teach them about the cultural richness of other communities, helping them develop a broader view of the world.
- Help people with disabilities access buildings that lack proper facilities, and advocate for organizations to make necessary changes.
- Raise your kids with a culture of peace, teaching them to resolve conflicts through dialogue and understanding, which will translate into adults who seek peaceful solutions.
- Advocate for your child with special needs within the school system. You can go further by helping other moms advocate for their children by creating a support group.
- Volunteer to teach a skill you have within the community. Education is one of the best ways to create change in society.
